Great Dune Wyrm
"The sands shift beneath your feet..."
- Not to be confused with the Dune Splicer, The Hardmode desert enemy
The Great Dune worm is an early-hardmode boss found in the Decimation Mod. It is summoned with the Desert Dessert in the desert.
While the boss is alive, it's exclusive theme "Shifting Sands" will play.
Behavior[ | ]
During the entire battle, the wyrm will move quicker as the battle progresses and health is lost. It tops off at 10% on Normal Mode, while it tops off at 20% on Expert Mode.
- When the Great Dune Wyrm enters the ground, it creates a blast of fossils that behave similarly to Spiky Balls. It is important to be wary of this attack, since the fossils can coat the battlefield.
- Likewise, in Expert Mode, every time he leaves the ground, he unleashes a sandnado which can quickly coat the surface.
- If it's health falls under 15%, it summons an Ancient Tomb Crawler to aid it in battle, which is essentially a weaker variant of the boss.
- The boss also has a 20% (50% in expert) chance to inflict the Hypothermia debuff on contract with the player.
Notes[ | ]
- Attempting to use a second Desert Dessert while the Dune Wyrm is alive won't result in a second one spawning, neither will the summoning item be consumed.
- This boss is intended to be fought immediately after The Wall of Flesh.
- The Great Dune Wyrm has a chance to spawn during Sandstorms with the warning message of "The sands shift beneath your feet..."
- When despawning, it travels into the ground until it vanishes.
Tips[ | ]
- It is a good idea to not be next to the spot the Dune Wyrm will emerge from, due to the sandstorm.
- It's useful for the player to try and make sure that their desert biome is of decent size, If the desert is too small, there is a chance the boss may despawn
- Using piercing weapons or ammunition such as Jester Arrows can be effective, as they pierce through multiple segments at once.
- When the Great Dune Wyrm first spawns in, it is most vulnerable because it is coiled up, similarly to the Destroyer or Eater of Worlds.
Trivia[ | ]
- The original theme for the Dune Wyrm was "The Deserts Call" and was composed by Skyre Ventes.
- Within the lore of the mod, the wyrm is the guardian of time, created by Ra and follows only commands from it's master, Anubis.
- The Great Dune Wyrm's appearance represents an armored version of the Molgera, a boss found in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
